AK Family Calibrators Enhanced Step Mode Feature

 Background

The Standard Step Mode function allows the user to specify any number (up to 100) of equally spaced steps (calibration points) between 2 user specified points. This is usually the ideal configuration since it is common to test an instrument at 3, 5, or 11 equally spaced points within the operating range of the instrument.

In some cases, local procedures or agency regulations require that instruments be tested at certain arbitrary points. Enhanced Step Mode allows the user to specify up to 10 individual step values and recall these values quickly using a simple key sequence.

Enhanced Step Mode is available in AK-20a Firmware Versions 2.02 and later, and AK-10 Firmware Version 1.13.

 Mode Selection

The choice between Standard and Enhanced Step Mode is made from the System Configuration Menu. Press the SYS key, scroll down to the STEP FUNCTION selection, and press ENT. Select Standard or Enhanced and press ENT. If Enhanced mode was selected, the Step function will operate as follows.

 Configuration

To configure the Enhanced Step Function, press STEP then ENT. You will see a prompt message Select 0-9 or ENT to configure as a reminder of the operation.

The next configuration menu allows the user to select between the 2 data sets available for storing Step values. Each thermocouple type can have either data set associated with it. When you change thermocouple types the unit will recall the proper data set for that thermocouple. Select either Set 0 or Set 1 and press ENT.

Use the ▼and ▲ keys to scroll through the 10 step values. To change a value, press SHIFT, key in the new value, and press ENT. After you have entered all your values, press ENT to save the values and exit the menu. Note that the Soak parameter is global and is common to both data sets and Standard and Enhanced mode.

Operation

To recall an individual Step, press STEP then any numeric key (0-9). The value for that Step will be applied to the output.

Use the and keys to sequence through the Step values in ascending or descending order.
